What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) uses principles and procedures that have been effective in behavior analysis research in changing human behavior. We focus on changing socially significant behaviors including  communication, language, adaptive behaviors and social skills.

What is it used for?

ABA addresses socially significant behaviors across a wide range of people and settings. ABA is not exclusive to developmental disabilities but has been used in this area to obtain amazing results. ABA has also been used to improve performance in many other areas including education and sports.

How is behavior improved?

Intake and Assessment
Our expert Behavior Analysts gather information regarding your child’s current abilities. This information, along with specific assessments, are utilized to determine the ideal intervention for your child. The assessment is an ongoing process rather than a one-time event and changes are ongoing if needed. During the assessment, we identify what maintains the behavior (function). Once the function is identified, a behavior support plan (BSP) is developed.

Treatment
The next step in the process is the development of an individualized treatment plan specific to your child’s needs. We focus on the root cause of the problem behavior and use scientific principles and procedures to make changes that are long lasting. Depending on your child’s needs, some programs may focus on increasing age-appropriate skills, improving classroom behavior, increasing receptive and expressive language, increasing independence and increasing social interactions while decreasing problematic behaviors. Our behavior intervention plan is implemented by our clinicians and parent participation is strongly encouraged.
